Alcemi is Welsh for Alchemy, a subject that has fascinated some of the most creative and innovative minds from ancient and historical times. It has been described as 'a philosophy so ancient that we can only guess at its true origins'

Alcemi Essences are inspired by and created in a unique location within the Brecon Beacons National Park - a place of powerful energy and ancient associations with myth and magic, prosperity and herbal wisdom. Alcemi is based at an historic farm situated on the slopes of the Black Mountain next to the open mountain side. The farm is linked to the famous legend of Llyn y Fan Fach, a mysterious secluded lake beneath the highest part of the mountain.
Many centuries ago, a young farmer fell in love with a fairy maiden who emerged from the lake. After winning her for his bride, they lived for some years in great happiness and prosperity before she returned to the lake. Instructed in herbal secrets by their magical mother, the couple’s sons went on to found a famous dynasty of medieval physicians.
All the photography on this website was taken within the national park, and the majority on or in the locality of the land where Alcemi Essences are made.
The scale, strength and longevity of trees make them significant in the landscape and to the human psyche. For thousands of years people have not only depended on trees for innumerable material and practical benefits, but found them a major source of inspiration and energy. When you feel refreshed, uplifted and inspired by a walk in the woods you are connecting with an ancient tradition of drawing on the strengthening power of trees. Solemnising marriages, signing international treaties, starting revolutionary movements, spiritual enlightenment, meetings of elders and parliaments, are all examples of events which took place under trees. People have always instinctively looked to trees to bring significance and power to their acts and intentions.
The trees from which Alcemi Essences are made grow in wooded valleys of rivers fresh from their source on the Black Mountain . Here genetically pure native woodland thrives, creating a haven for wildlife. The magnificent red kite, now recovering from near extinction after surviving in a few remote parts of Wales , nest there. The woods also provide a home or hunting ground for many birds, insects and mammals, including buzzards, owls, ravens, woodpeckers, hares, bats, otters and dragonflies, while a variety of herbs, wild flowers, mosses and ferns carpet the woodland floor.
Since we own the land, we can ensure that the woods are cared for sensitively and organically, protecting the trees from any possible contamination or damage. A recent ecologist’s report concluded "their many positive features mean that these woodlands are certainly significant at the Regional level and possibly the National level".
Alcemi Essences are the first flower essences produced in the UK to attain full organic certification.
Only the finest ingredients, together with a great deal of care and attention go into their production.
This is effectively a natural alchemical process involving the traditional four elements of earth, water, fire and air.
The essences are highly diluted because they are designed to work at a vibrational level. They are created by a process involving working with the energies of individual trees, rather than a purely material harvest. Essences are made on auspicious days - astronomically suitable days for flowers according to the Biodynamic calendar.
Only absolutely perfect tree flowers at their most potent are gathered. The water is taken from natural springs flowing close to the woods, and further energised by vortex stirring before use. The extracted vital essence is preserved in vodka, chosen for its purity. Essence from different trees is then carefully blended to produce the Alcemi range.
