Ideas and tips for making the most of various situations and opportunities, together with suggestions on the Alcemi Essences you may find particularly helpful.
The beginning of a new year, is often a good time to nake a fresh start - so here are some suggestions for making the most of it!
Scenarios illustrate how you can use the range of Alcemi Essences. We have listed appropriate essences (in brackets) at relevant places within the text and made these links so you can easily get more information if you wish about a particular essence.
If you want to make a fresh start, then make sure it really is fresh! For many people the impetus for making a fresh start is disappointment, discomfort, or just plain boredom. If you are experiencing any kind of shock or emotional upset, reducing the turbulence will help you can assess your situation realistically ( Equilibrium ). If you are feeling rather flat and jaded, you need to brighten up and stop seeing your world through gloomy grey glasses ( Exuberance ). Whatever your circumstances, be aware of how you are feeling, but beware of letting your feelings colour the entire world!
Accepting the present as it is, will give you a stronger base to begin from. This doesn’t mean you have to believe that whatever has happened is fair, reasonable or even your fault. Recognising and accepting how things are, including the way you feel about it ( Clarity ), simply frees you up to move on more effectively. There is no point focusing on the past or what you don't want. That’s like trying to start a race facing backwards on the starting block and tied to a large boulder someway back along the track. You are much more likely to get off to a good start by focusing on where you want to go next.
Get moving by getting motivated. Having an inspiring bigger picture in mind helps kick start the motivation! . Decide what you actually do want now, and invest some time imagining what that would be like ( Vision ). Make sure your overall objective is compelling and positive. E.g. Instead of: "I’m overweight, its unhealthy, makes me unattractive etc. so I must loose weight." Start thinking about the weight or size you would enjoy being, how good it would feel looking the new slim line you, how good it would feel to move and dress the way you want.
What if you know you want something different, but can’t decide what to aim for? Forget the dissatisfaction, time to be more playful. If in doubt make it up - invent a goal for yourself ( Creativity / Juvenescence ). It will get you going, and you can always try your goal on for size and select another if you discover it doesn’t suit you after all.
If you really can’t decide what you want to aim for, then make your objective a quest of discovery ( Juvenescence ) - a search for a worthwhile goal.
Once you have a sense of your overall aims, choose encouraging outcomes. Just as it helps to break a journey into stages so you can have a sense of how far you have travelled, set your sights on your goal but put some staging posts in place ( Clarity / Decisiveness ) - so you can enjoy the sense of making progress.
E.g. If you have decided to get a better job, you could chunk the process down into small steps, such as check out suitable training to acquire more skills, sign on with an employment agency, look through job vacancies, get help with a makeover - a new set of clothes, more flattering hairstyle ( Juvenescence / Exuberance / Presence), get a friend to practice interview questions with ( Connexion / Creativity ), update and upgrade your CV ( Creativity / Clarity ), act differently at work, aim to get noticed by your boss ( Exuberance / Presence ), set yourself some challenging personal targets in your present work ( Energize / Decisiveness ). As you take any of these small steps you will find yourself growing into the person who is going to get that wonderful new job!
We’ve looked at some of the crucial ways you can approach making a fresh start, and how you can be well prepared. The most important thing to do though, is not to delay too long, but simply get started. Start somewhere, start anywhere, for starting generates energy ( Energize / Decisiveness).
We often hold back from making a start because we fear 'failure'. If you suspect or know that some people will pour scorn on your intentions and endeavours, don’t hold yourself back. Hold back from telling them and make a start anyway ( Presence). This will inevitably involve you doing something different or the same things differently. You may feel awkward because of this unfamiliarity. Stop worrying about 'getting it right' and start acting yourself into the new role ( Exuberance ). Our feelings influence our physiology but our physiology influences our feelings too. Walking tall and smiling can do wonders for shifting you into a more confident frame of mind.
The easiest place to start may not be the most logical but it will always be just that - the easiest. If you are trying to break a habit, then look for the weakest link in the vicious circle that keeps you bound in the habit ( Clarity ). Let your enthusiasm signpost your actions, and you will have more energy for tackling the things that you might otherwise postpone.
Don't let the fizz fizzle out. Stay with it ( Persistence). There is always a flash of glamour and sparkle with any new start, then often a lull before you begin to reap the benefit of the changes you are making. You may feel you are not making progress or at worst going backwards. So often this is just a time lag before the results you want kick in. Rather than dither and doubt all the time, set yourself specific times to review your progress honestly ( Clarity ). Meanwhile keep going, taking the action steps you already identified ( Persistence / Energize ).
Keep your fresh start sparkly fresh with a light touch ( Juvenescence ) and avoid letting it become a chore. Your progress will be speeded if you are able to say both 'Yes' and 'No'. Yes to any opportunities that may help ( Abundance), and no to requests that would distract or diminish your energies ( Presence ). Above all stay connected with the big picture of your ultimate goal ( Vision ), and do whatever you can right now to move towards it ( Persistence).
Good Luck!
